Honeybees are known to be a social insect that lives in a large group together with a well-organized family. They are highly engaged in a variety of tasks such as communication, nest construction, defense, and environmental control. These tasks are divided based on the category and behavior, which tends to create a successful colony. A single colony usually consists of three types of bees which are queen, drones, and workers. Thousands of workers mainly deal with building the nest and storing honey. Queen plays the main role in the reproduction system, while drones are subjected to mate with the queen in the colony.
Different Types Of Bees
Identifying these bees is much easier. The color of such bees is mostly golden brown with plenty of black abdominal stripes. These types of bees are generally known as female workers, if you look closely at them you can find yellow pollen of flowers on their legs. As soon as they collect the pollen from the flowers they return to their hives and store it to produce honey. Most of these bees are kept in hives by professional beekeepers as well as by hobbyists. They can fly up to 3 miles or more to find the needed quantity of pollen.
There are a total of 49 species of bumblebees. These bees are much larger in comparison to others and tend to have a black body covered with black and yellow dense hairs. They got their name by the sound they make insides the flowers. These types of bees usually pollinate from a wide range of wildflowers as well as they are also a pollinator of several cultural crops including tomatoes. They are non-aggressive and tend to create a small family.
Mason Bee – Types Of Bees
They are small and fast-flying bees of the family and known as the fighter jet. Mason bees usually have metallic colors including blue, dull black and green. They don’t have any pollen basket in their legs rather they collect the flowers pollens inside their abdomens. These bees get active in the spring season and lay male eggs. They focus to collect the pollen from the flowers which are near to their nest. They are the clam bees of the family.
These types of bees are much similar to mason bees which collect the pollens from the nearest source of their nest. They have white and black hairs on their thorax and the bottom of the abdomen. The size of their head is much bigger and massive jaws which help them in cutting the leaves and seal their nest. They are important pollinators of numerous wildlife flowers and they also collect pollen from vegetables and fruits. They can sting and are capable of defending their nest.
It is a normal size bee but the hair pattern and banding are much similar to bumblebees. They usually feed on blueberry due to which they got their name and tend to have a shape like a bell-shaped blueberry flower. They mainly make their nest in the ground near the blueberry plants. After finding it, they communicate with their colony members.
